Refining Indonesian Coffee
At Kiaterra, we believe Indonesian coffee deserves to be experienced beyond stereotypes — with care, attention, and respect from the farm to the cup.
Indonesia is one of the most diverse coffee origins in the world, shaped by altitude, climate, and long-standing farming traditions. Yet much of its specialty potential remains unexplored. Indonesian coffee is often understood through a limited sensory ( linear taste) while its full diversity and craftsmanship quietly speak for themselves.
Our aim is to raise up — and refine — Indonesian specialty coffee through care for people, planet, and product. We believe sustainable coffee businesses start at the very beginning with the seeds on the farm.
We want to commercialise coffee beans from Indonesia while working in harmony with all people involved along the value chain , and while pursuing a minimal impact of our product to our planet. Therefore we carefully select Indonesian coffee that is organically grown through sustainable farming practices and for which a fair price is paid to the farmers. To provide transparency on this, we work hand-in-hand with our producer in Indonesia, from whom we directly import the coffee ourselves.
-
It starts at the farm
For us, sustainability is not a label. It begins at the farm.
We work closely with producer partners Le Gayo and smallholder farms in the Indonesian highlands through direct, long-term relationships. By importing our coffees ourselves, we ensure transparency, fair pricing at origin, and close involvement in how each coffee is grown and processed.
Our coffees are organically grown, harvested from fully ripe, hand-picked cherries, and traded with respect for the people behind them — allowing us to minimize our impact on the planet while maintaining quality and care.
-
Single origin, roasted with intention
All our coffees are 100% Arabica and single origin, typically scoring above 83 points according to specialty coffee standards. We choose not to blend, as each region and harvest has its own character worth preserving.
In the Netherlands, we roast our coffees ourselves in small batches, using self-developed roast profiles. Our focus is not on following trends, but on bringing out balance, clarity, and an honest expression of Indonesian specialty coffee — staying true to its origin and quality.
Each coffee is roasted to work well across different brew methods, whether enjoyed at home or served in a café.
